Jess & Will's East Coast Tasmanian Elopement
This little destination elopement has been a long time coming on the blog and one of my all time favourites from early on this year. Jess & Will are two of the kindest I’ve met on this journey and I’m so keen to share a bit of their story from their perspective.
Meet Jess and Will, two Sydney-siders who decided they wanted to get hitched in Tassie with just 11 guests and their 4WD. Here’s what the two legends have to say about their day!
When and how did you meet?
We met in 2015 at a friend’s 21st with a very classy theme - CEOs and office hoes. We bantered from the beginning about who was the CEO in the relationship, and it’s still a point of discussion (it’s definitely Jess).
Why did you decide to get married at Freycinet Lodge?
We considered so many different options for our wedding and were becoming quite overwhelmed at the idea of a huge wedding, both coming from big families. We found Freycinet Lodge in a 4am panic google of elopement packages and it ticked so many boxes. Neither of us had ever been to Freycinet before, but it was an absolutely stunning location we couldn’t say no to.
What was the the best part of your day?
We’re not just saying this because it’s Ed’s blog - but whenever anyone asks this question, we always say the best part of the day was getting our photos taken after the ceremony. The whole day was wonderful, we adored spending so much time celebrating with our families, but having that time to ourselves feeling so in love was definitely the highlight.
Funniest or most iconic moment at your elopement?
One of the most iconic parts of our elopement was how heavily Will’s 4WD was featured. Never thought there’d be so much car content in our wedding photos, but Ed ticked all our boxes of including a few photos featuring Will’s car (balanced with plenty of stunning non-car related content!). The stunning location of Freycinet will also be another iconic feature of any wedding in the area.
Any advice for engaged couples / any regrets or things you would do differently?
For us, those months before we decided on a location and style of wedding (big vs elopement) was the most stressful period. Once we made that decision, the rest of the wedding planning process was so enjoyable, so we wish we just made a decision sooner and followed our instincts, as the elopement ended up being so perfectly “us”. Trust your gut with every step of the way, and if you’re a people pleaser (like Jess) try to push past that and do what you want for your wedding - you’re the ones who will remember it for the rest of your lives (and look at the photos daily, still 8 months on!!)
